Now Carrying: I start the year with Michael Kors

5 Jan

A few weeks ago, I didn’t know what was wrong with me. I had purchased a brand new tote bag from one of my favorite Soulcialite friendly sites and I waited nearly two weeks to break it out. Well, let me tell you, I was robbing myself. Because when I finally got around to using the bag, I fell in love with this  Michael Kors Jacquard Tote.

Stylish, Functional Michael Kors Jacquard Tote

I used it to travel back to South Carolina for the holiday and I have to admit that I LOVE how incredibly spacious, not to mention stylish this bag is. Notice the hanging MK symbol in a weighty gold.

This bag was so big and spacious, it carried all of my electronic devices (ipod, camera, cell phone) along with books for the trip without being too bulky.

The bag has also been incredibly stylish with a variety of wardrobes- office wear or casual. It caught the eye of several, including my grocery store check out girl. Take it anywhere. It fits nicely on your shoulder or in your arm crease.

The website where I bought this fabulous new handbag to add to my Collection is accepting new members. If you want one, simply click here.

Happy Shopping!

Soulcialites, what bags are you rocking to start the year? Send your pics!

Kai Milla – Shop or Flop ?

5 Oct

Just a tad bit of gossip….but Page Six, The Huffington Post, and The Washington Post, are reporting that Kai Milla Designs, the fashion line headed by the wife of Stevie Wonder is going under. Done. Kaput. (Their words, not mine)

That’s interesting, because she was at FBCGlenarden over the weekend, gifting all kinds of expensive looking clothes to the First Lady of the church. At the time Kai Milla mentioned that coming soon, her fashions would be in retailers like Nordstrom and Saks Jandel, not to be confused with Saks Fifth Avenue. Jandel carries high style and fashion from well-known names like Valentino, Yves St. Laurent, Max Mara and Michael Kors.

Now, I did find it odd that the promotional video played at the Beyond, Beyond Women’s Conference, to introduce Kai Milla was from last year. But the video boasted Kai Milla’s support from Michelle Obama, Oprah, Eva Mendes, and all the other ladies of color in Hollyweird.

According to the New York Post, “Milla’s last collection was for spring/summer 2010, and was presented during New York Fashion Week last September at the Museum of Art and Design at Columbus Circle.”

Apparently, KMDesigns owes Modeling agencies, production crews, design assistants, pattern makers, office and store landlords in New York and LA. But she has been unavailable and cannot be reached by phone or email. They should have been at FBC Glenarden on Saturday. Kai Milla, on the left in the picture above, perhaps became best known when the First Lady Michelle Obama wore a Kai Milla Design in February 2009 at the Library of Congress and at a Stevie Wonder performance at the White House.

On Saturday Kai MIlla gave a preview of what’s supposed to be in stores next year – fabulous formal wear and one of a kind suits. Some of the other features were scarves, capes, sparkly clutches, and a large leather hobo that of course caught my eye.

I did get one outfit idea – a cranberry sheath dress with a heather gray cardigan with a white belt. I love those pops of color. Let’s see if I can put that outfit together this season. I’ll be sure to take a pic and let you know!

Gillette and Rolling Out Present: MEN OF STYLE AWARDS – DC

2 Dec
The Best a Man Can Get
What about the Ladies? Just joking. Soulcialite does Business at the Gillette and Rolling Out
Men of Style Awards, November 2009
I had the pleasure of attending the Gillette Man of Style Awards Co-hosted by Rolling Out Magazine. This event was the DC installment of a tour that is making it’s way across country. Farnsworth Bentley was the celebrity host and DC’s WKYS Jeanie Jones added local flavor as the awards highlighted local barbers as well as eight ambassadors of good grooming and great style in Washington. Gillette used their well established and on point tagline, “The Best A Man Could Get” as the criteria for selecting honorees. The same standard was used to select the host barbershop, Cuts Unlimited, whose proprietors are Katrina Tuck and Trent Horton.

Men of Style honorees: CNN contributor Roland Martin, Fox TV anchor Kelly Wright, Fashion designer Everett Hall, TV/Radio personality Big Tigg, Celebrity event planner Andre Wells, DC Councilman Kwame Brown, DC W Hotel manager Ed Baten, and Attorney/Businessman Michael Melton.

DC Stars and local celebrites, as well as footplayers (Fred Smoot), artists on the come-up (Que of Day 26) and well, the aspiring models. Side note: I came from WORK, meaning, I had on a suit. But for a 6pm arrival, where do these young girls come from wearing skin tight shiny materials. I mean, you must not have a job, because well, even I didn’t have a change of clothes. Give me a break. Sorry, small rant.

Wednesday, December 2, 2009 Gillette will conclude it’s DC visit with an event at Cuts Unlimited Barber Salon 3301 Donnell Drive, District Heights, MD. More info and flyer below, but generally: Professional shaves compliments of Gillette Fusion, barber and dermatologist advice on sensitive skin. And Cheerleaders for the gents.

The night is always good when I meet up with friends and even meet some new people. As always, my media and PR friends were in the place.

You know me, I play the back.
I got a chance to meet Farnsworth Bentley. We connected over our SpelHouse experience. Cool dude. He kicked it at Bar Louie, upon my suggestion of course, and then hit Monday Night at Marvins, where I heard the party was bananas, where a friend of mine told me he went home with only one shoe. Not Bentley of course, he had all of his shoes.

Hosts Farnsworth with Jeanie Jones, and the always dapper, Mr. Kenny Burns (touch yo-self!)

Now on to the professional pics. Squint, Wire Image doesn’t let the pics get any bigger than this (LOL)
