Event Review: The PBG Hosts Happy Black Girl Day in DC

9 Jun

I had the pleasure of sitting around, kee-keeing with some new sistafriends Wednesday after work to celebrate Happy Black Girl Day. The Intergalactic Holiday, founded by Sista Tolda of The Beautiful Struggler, is intended for women to celebrate their happiness and womanhood. The idea took off quickly on the twittersphere, and other bloggers have lent their support since the start of the holiday.

Wednesday night, DC blogger, The PBG, {Pretty Brown Girl} author of Dirty Pretty Thangs held a DC Happy Hour at the quaint and friendly Mocha Lounge. Women gathered to meet, share laughs, lite fare and cake. What’s a happy day without some cake. There was a drawing for beautiful earrings by Rachel Stewart {Twitter: @RStewartJewelry } and two literary treats.

Here are a few pictures from the evening. All taken by my BB phone camera (so-so quality).

In a wonderful surprise, I won a copy of Glorious by Bernice L. McFadden {Twitter: @queenazsa }

The event was a smashing success, fueled by women’s positivity, our  men friends who joined us in person and online, and a concept that Black Women are supportive and happy and should be celebrated.

Celebrate Happy Black Girl Day the second Wednesday of each month.

    Awesome review! Thanks so much for coming out and showing support. I’m in the process of researching and planning for the next two events. #HBGD is a movement!
